What a liquid foundation is

The standard base: pigment suspended in a fluid, in shades matched to the skin.

How it is used. Dot onto the centre of the face and blend outward with a damp sponge or a buffing brush.

The techniques

Dot and blend

Place small dots of product, then blend them outward.

Buff

Work in small circles with a dense brush until no edge remains.

Stipple

Bounce the tips of the brush against the skin for an airbrushed, dotted-in finish.

Pat

Tap lightly with a fingertip or damp sponge so product melts in rather than moves.

What to apply it with

Also works with a blending sponge, a flat foundation brush, a silicone applicator and a mixing palette and spatula.
