What an eyeshadow palette is

How it is used. Work from light to dark: transition shade in the crease, lid shade, then depth at the outer corner.

The techniques

Pack

Pat colour onto the lid for full, dense payoff rather than sweeping it.

Blend

Soften an edge until one colour passes into the next without a line.

Windscreen wiper

Side-to-side strokes along the crease to diffuse colour upward.

Halo

Deeper colour at the inner and outer lid, with a lighter spotlight in the centre.

Cut crease

Carve a sharp line along the crease with concealer, then fill the lid beneath it.
